WTF is Semiformal?

As graduation is over, the grad parties have started. As the weather is warm, and most grad parties are outdoors, the dresscode more often than not is "semiformal." The word semiformal is confusing in itself. Semi, like partial? So partially formal??

We were confused ourselves, so we decided to break it down.

Black Tie/Evening Wear: This would be the gowns and dresses you see on the red carpet, or like prom dresses.
Casual: Duh. (denim and such)
Formal: Dresses, skirts, heels; fancy

So we'd have to say if you were dressing for a semiformal event it just depends on how dressy you want to go. We would suggest something like the following:

Dress: Urban Outfitters
Bralette: Brandy Melville
Necklace: Charming Charlie

You can never go wrong with a floral dress. They can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. The one shown is perfect because the necklace dresses it up and makes the outfit more fancy, but the open back of the dress and the ladder-back bralette make the outfit more casual for daytime wear. Also keep in mind that your hair and shoes will affect your outfit! For semiformal, something like loose waves (as in picture) and sandals or wedges (casual wedges) would be perfect.

Victoria Beckham: Fashion Icon

Victoria Beckham is known for many things. She's Posh Spice, wife of the gorgeous David Beckham, mother, entrepreneur, and fashion designer. She's created countless trends and is one of our fashion inspirations.

When we think Victoria Beckham, we think clean lines, black and white; very chic.

However, she's done so much more than what most people think. She brought the asymmetrical bob into fashion (long in the front short in the back) and the peplum style that was trending last spring.

Victoria Beckham is glamorous in an effortless sort of way, and that's what I think makes her so gorgeous and her fashion and styles so timeless.

Yahoo Celebrity's recent article on Victoria Beckham inspired our post! Read it here:

Spring into Skirts!

Floral

Shirt: Nordstrom
Skirt: Forever 21
Sandals: Target
Cardigan: Forever 21

Polka-dotted

Striped
Top: Hollister Co.
Jacket: vintage
Skirt: H&M
Shoes: Urban OG
Bag: BDG from Urban Outfitters

As the weather warms up, the skirts come out! As always, printed skirts seem to be very popular. They're the perfect addition to any spring closet because you can pair them with virtually anything. However, because prints draw the eye, it is best to pair them with something basic, like a white shirt or something of contrast so your outfit doesn't look too busy. Finish off your outfit with a matching sweater or jacket and you're good to go!

Have a fun spring break!

Prom Season Styles

Now we all know that prom season is extremely exciting and one of the best parts is looking for a dress. Now there seems to be three different routes you can go with when looking for a prom dress. You can go with the short prom dress like the one below.

Now I know for us, we personally prefer the long gowns for prom because they are so elegant. Below you can see a very classic style of prom dress with a beaded bodice and a flowy skirt. It is from Sherri Hill which is a very well known prom dress store.

Now you can also go for the more fitted mermaid style dress like this one.
And for you daring souls out there who want to try more unique dresses, those can be gorgeous as well like this one.

Overall, if your prom dress fits your personality and your sense of style then you can't go wrong. As prom season kicks into high gear you want to be the one to stand out. So express yourself in your prom dress and you should feel fabulous.

This Weeks Gold Carpet Update: Spring Fashion Trends

Maxi dresses are making a comeback this spring. In this picture Lily Donaldson is wearing a light and flowy maxi dress which is perfect for a warm spring evening. For those chillier days you can just add a light wash denim jacket or vest for the perfect spring look.

The crop tops from last spring are not going anywhere. In this outfit Candice Swanepoel is wearing a pair of rolled up mint skinny jeans paired perfectly with a loose fitting white crop top. This is the perfect combination of simple and chic.

Pastel colors are super in this spring. Here Taylor Swift is wearing a beautiful peach pastel dress paired with a strappy pair of nude heels. Adding a white or beige blazer can take this outfit to a whole another level and its perfect for a nice spring evening out.

Coco Chanel: Fashion Goddess

Coco Chanel is known and revered as one of the most influential figures in the fashion world from the 1920’s to today. Not only was Coco Chanel way ahead of her time fashion-wise, she created timeless styles that were practical, comfortable, and chic and are still seen with awe today. Coco Chanel did more than design clothes; she created a fashion empire that is still seen as one of the most high-class and prestigious to this day. She changed fashion forever, and her influence on the fashion world will continue forever.

Facts about Coco Chanel
  • She invented the LBD (little black dress)
  • She made the tan popular
  • She made the first long strap shoulder bags (crossbody bags) after she got sick of holding handbags
  • She helped invent the flapper dress. She hated the constricting dresses that women had to wear, and she hated corsets. So, she designed dresses and clothes that were a little looser. This style is still popular and is seen in shift dresses.
  • She popularized the minimalist style and brought it into fashion.
  • Chanel No. 5, her first and most popular perfume is still one of the most popular perfumes in the entire world
  • She won a fashion "Oscar" from Neiman Marcus

Summer in the Winter
Who says you can only wear summer clothes when its hot out?

Printed Skirt and Basics

Top: Marshall's
Skirt: Brandy Melville
Anorak: Target
Boots: UrbanOG
Necklace: Forever 21

Pastel Flowers and Layers

Dress: H&M
Sweater: American Eagle Outfitters
Anorak: Cotton On
Socks: Walmart
Shoes: Bare Traps from DSW
Belt: H&M

Summer clothes are some of the most unique things you can add to your winter wardrobe. Florals and bright colors are adorable in the winter because they are things that you normally do not see in the winter. In addition, the cuts and patterns of summer clothes are very different from those of winter, and mixing summer clothes and winter clothes together adds a variety of layers that look super cute together. Don't be afraid to experiment with your clothes! You paid for them, so you might as well wear them as much as you can. The easiest way to wear one of your summer skirts or dresses (like we did in the pictures) is with tights and a warm jacket. It'll keep you warm, and you'll look adorable!

P.S. Sorry for being away for so long~
